Servants of All
Project Alpha
We are hosting "Project Alpha Leadership Training" which is a six-month event that started in March of 2002. In cooperation with the March of Dimes, 13 to 19 year old boys and girls will learn about the social, economic and personal consequences that come with fathering and mothering a child. We hope to stem the tide of youths who are becoming parents at too young an age. A public event will begin on April 20th at the Miller Morgan Health Sciences building on the campus of NC Central University. If you are interested in participating or know of someone who would be interested please do not hesitate to contact Bro. Marcus Frederick at _____________
A Voteless People is a Hopeless People
In accordance with our national program, Beta Theta Lambda is dedicated to showing a presence in the Durham community by working closely with African-American leaders to educate the population of the importance of voting. To make strides in accordance with the task force headed by Brother Tyson King Meadows, Beta Theta Lambda has adopted a voting district (Sheppard-Pratt) and has pledged to raise the percentage of voters for that district by sponsoring various events and community projects
Go to High School, Go to College
Beta Theta Lambda's goal is to foster a close relationship with Afican-American youth which will generate positive young men in uplifting positions at the high school and college level. Currently Beta Theta Lambda is revitalizing the Go to High School, Go to College Program for the chapter so as to include many areas in which we feel young men need help. One of which is mentoring. We're in the process of organizing a program that will enable us to "adopt" a class of 6th graders mentor and tutor them from middle school through high school and assist them in obtaining the funding needed to pursue college careers in their field of choice. It's an ambitious program, however the Alpha's of Beta Theta Lambda are up to the task. In addition we are working with an area Elementary School to provide tutoring in the areas of reading and math.
Commission on Business and Economic Development:
The Commission on Business and Economic Development is a project that has recently found its way to Beta Theta Lambda with the help of Brother Al Richardson and Brother Calvin McNeil. The Committee was founded because these Brothers saw a need to further Business Encouragement, Development and Leadership activities of Beta Theta Lambda, and raise awareness of the importance of being attuned to such opportunities. The committee is seeking to promote the development of African-American business, create awareness of the buying power of our community, and create an atmosphere for the continued economic growth of African-Americans.
