President's Remarks
Happy New Year!
Looking back over 2011, the beloved Bull City Brothers can be proud of all of their accomplishments. From the beginning to the end BTL has made a difference in the lives of many in Durham, North Carolina. Our National Programs of Go to High School/Go to College, an Excellence in Education mentoring program; A Voteless People is a Hopeless People, our Political Thrust; Project Alpha where we collaborate with the March of Dimes to help young men make responsible decisions concerning HIV/AIDS and sexually transmitted diseases, and also providing education on sexuality, fatherhood and the role of males in relationships; and Brother’s Keeper Program which assists our senior Brothers and widows of deceased Brothers in a plethora of daily tasks.

We completed another successful Thanksgiving project this year. BTL Brothers remembered the least of these as we delivered complete Thanksgiving dinners to families in Durham. The recipients expressed their gratitude for the delicious and filling Thanksgiving dinners. Thanks, BTL Brothers, for a job well done!

We closed out last year with a bang at our fourth annual New Year’s Eve GALA. A good time was had by all who attended. Brother James M. Schooler Sr. Scholarship Fund was enriched. Our aim of “Manly Deeds, Scholarship, and Love for all Mankind” is alive as we continue to do great things the Durham community. We look forward to greater achievements in 2012. The old has passed away and behold, all things are new (2 Corinthians 5:17).

Fraternally yours,
Brother Baldwin Gammage

GTHS,GTC Kicks Off
The Go-To-High School, Go-To-College (GTHS, GTC) Saturday Academy session for December 10, 21011 was a great success. The GTHS, GTC Saturday Academy was attended by four students and facilitated by ten brothers from the Beta Theta Lambda Chapter. Breakfast was served at 9:40 am.

An instructional session entitled “Successful Study Skills” was facilitated by Brother Donald Barringer. The session included a powerpoint presentation and problem solving exercises that were both timed and not timed. These exercises were geared toward developing the participants' ability to work alone and within a group. At the conclusion of the session, a round table was conducted where all participants were allowed to share at least one thing they learned that would help to improve their current study habits.

Following the presentation, all participants convened in the Chewning gymnasium for approximately 30 minutes of free play and personal interaction time.

The Saturday Academy was concluded at 12:30 pm. The next scheduled session for the Saturday Academy is on January, 14 2012.

Respectfully submitted,

Bro. Roger A. McDougal

Brother's Keeper

On Saturday, December 3rd from 12 noon til 4pm, a team of brothers from the Beta Theta Lambda chapter (Heath, Dudley, Long and Paige) and the Gamma Beta chapter (Kennedy and Jones) participated in a leaf clearing project at the home of our own Brother Roger Gregory. Brother Rodney Shepherd and family had started working on the leaf clearing project earlier in the week and had gotten a good start on the front yard. Thank you again to the brothers that participated in this project. We gathered over 30 bags of leaves off of Brother Gregory’s yard that afternoon.

The committee is still in the early stages of collecting information and formulating a letter to go out to the widows and elderly brothers in the Durham area that may need some assistance. If any brother are in contact with someone from those two groups we ask that you take a Needs Assessment form and have them fill it out and return it back to the Brother’s Keeper Committee.

Respectfully submitted,

Brother Everett Dudley
